Sweethearts and Wives 1823
Sweethearts and Wives 1823

Some of Isaac Nathans songs have been found and recorded. Here is a link to the Romantic Era Songs website. Dr Douglass and Dr Burwick have made a significant contribution to Isaac Nathan research through their interest in 19th Century literature, especially with regard to Lord Byron and Nathan's collaboration on the Hebrew Melodies .
Isaac Nathan's brother, Baron, was also a performer. He became famous for his dancing and theatrics. Isaac and Baron also married sisters and were in business together selling sheet music. The song "Why are you Wandering Here?" was one of Isaac Nathan's most popular compositions, and here it is claimed to have been by B. Nathan. It is likely that Baron continued selling music after Isaac Nathan moved to Australia.

Sydney Living Museums has contributed live performances and recordings of 19th Century Music in Australia. They share some Isaac Nathan songs on their website. Here is one such example. Nathan reused this song in his opera Don John of Austria in Australia.
Madame Vestris was one of the most prominent leading ladies of the 1820s and 1830s. Click here to read Madame Vestris and her Times.

Other cast members included John Braham, Ms Love and Mr Liston.
One evening after the show had finished, Isaac Nathan held an Academy or Soiree. Madame Vestris and John Braham and all the rest of the cast from Sweethearts and Wives were present. Nathan's sixth child had just been born and everyone was celebrating. Eliza Nathan died that night and there may be evidence about what happened in the diaries and notes or letters of those in attendance.
